Crown Resorts has named veteran hospitality leader, Mark McWhinnie, as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Sydney location. McWhinnie’s assumption of the role, effective immediately subject to regulatory green lights, comes after a distinguished four-decade career in the integrated resort and hospitality sector across Asia, Australia, and the Pacific region.

McWhinnie transitions to Crown from Sands China where he occupied high-level management positions and supervised the activities of eight properties, including the renowned Venetian and Londoner Macao. His dedication to environmentally-sound practices during his 13-year period at Sands China resulted in the Parisian Macao achieving LEED Silver accreditation.

Before his time at Sands China, McWhinnie held executive roles at Isetan Mitsukoshi Hotel Group in Japan and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts throughout Asia and Australia.

McWhinnie takes over the position previously filled by Simon McGrath, who will be departing Crown Sydney at the close of September.

Ciarán Carruthers, Crown Resorts’ Chief Executive Officer, conveyed his assurance in McWhinnie’s capacity to steer the Sydney operation, emphasizing his notable history of cultivating robust cultures and providing outstanding guest encounters. He stressed that McWhinnie’s appointment underscores Crown’s commitment to securing leading industry professionals.

McWhinnie expressed his excitement about joining Crown Sydney, recognizing the property’s globally-recognized standing and the team’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Im genuinely thrilled to expand on this groundwork, and I’m wholly dedicated to giving my all to ensure we reach our objective of becoming a frontrunner in the interactive entertainment sector, recognized for our dedication to security and accountability.

Crown Sydney occupies a distinctive place as an entry point to Australia. We possess a genuine chance to assume a pivotal part in rejuvenating the hospitality and travel industries.”
