Ontario Bans UFC Betting Over Insider Knowledge Concerns

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has significantly impacted UFC wagering. They have essentially directed provincial operators to cease accepting bets on UFC bouts, effective immediately.

This decision stems from substantial apprehensions regarding potential improprieties occurring behind the scenes. It appears the UFC does not prohibit individuals within its organization – including trainers, athletes, and even representatives – from placing wagers on matches. The regulatory body is concerned that this practice creates an avenue for the exploitation of insider knowledge to manipulate betting outcomes, a serious transgression.

Several recent occurrences, including public allegations and suspicious wagering trends, have raised significant concerns. The commission is essentially stating that the UFC must address its internal issues before operations can resume. They emphasize the prioritization of consumer protection and fair play, particularly given the immense popularity of UFC betting in Ontario.

All parties concerned must exercise heightened awareness regarding potential wagering by individuals with insider knowledge. This matter is of paramount importance to us. We are actively collaborating with sportsbooks, the Ontario Lottery, iGaming Ontario, and naturally, the UFC to guarantee that all wagers placed on UFC events adhere to the AGCO’s established guidelines.”
