Australia Launches BetStop: A National Self-Exclusion Registry for Online and Phone Wagering
Australias new digital and telephone wagering self-exclusion registry, dubbed “BetStop,” is set to go live shortly. This registry will enable individuals to bar themselves from all legal online and phone betting services nationwide. They can opt to exclude themselves for a minimum of three months or indefinitely.
Upon registering for BetStop, all licensed betting firms are required to close the individual’s account, preventing them from placing wagers, establishing new accounts, and receiving promotional materials. These companies are also obligated to publicize BetStop on their websites, applications, and marketing initiatives.
The head of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), Nerida O’Loughlin, stated that BetStop will empower individuals at risk of gambling issues to take charge of their circumstances. She encouraged all betting companies to prepare for the implementation of BetStop and safeguard their clientele.
For individuals looking to modify their wagering practices, Betstop could be a valuable tool.
The title and initial guidelines of the program were affirmed this week following the ACMA’s request for Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to restrict access to 11 additional overseas gambling domains.
The ACMA determined that Pokie Island, Rich Palms, Lucky Tiger Casino, Megaslot, Bitkingz, Parimatchwin, Casino Rocket, Montecryptos, Cabarino, Robin Roo, and Jackpot Jill VIP were violating the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001.
The ACMA stated that these websites are unlawfully offering online gambling in Australia and urged ISPs to block them.
