South Australian Regulator Seeks Input for SkyCity Casino Probe

The South Australian Liquor and Gambling Commission (OLGC) has issued a request for input to aid its independent investigation into SkyCity Entertainment Group and its land-based casino operations within the state.

The OLGC declared earlier this month that it would be examining the operator and its SkyCity Adelaide casino establishment, following similar probes into land-based casino operations in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, and Queensland.

Crown Resorts was deemed unsuitable to manage casinos in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia, while Star Entertainment Group is currently being scrutinized in New South Wales and Queensland.

In initiating its independent investigation, the OLGC stated that many of the matters raised in the reviews in other states “extended beyond any one entity” and pointed to broader systemic issues within the casino sector.

To support this, the industry, interested parties, and the general public have been encouraged to provide their perspectives. The OLGC has indicated that it is seeking input from any individuals or organizations that may possess information pertinent to the review.

A former High Court Judge, Brian Martin AO QC, has been selected to spearhead an examination to assess if SkyCity remains qualified to retain its casino license in South Australia.

“Mr. Martin is a highly regarded figure within the legal field,” stated OLGC Commissioner Dini Soulio. “He has previously undertaken assessments of crucial criminal justice strategies in South Australia, encompassing the management of serious offenses and modifications to the state’s sentencing reduction program.

“I am certain he will produce a report that aids us in guaranteeing South Australians have faith in the operations of the Adelaide casino.”
